Ronny Chieng
was born 21/11/1985. Chieng is currently a senior correspondent for The Daily
Show on Comedy Central. He also created and plays the lead role in the sitcom
Ronny Chieng International Student, which premiered on ABC Australia
(Australia) in the year 2017. Chieng was born in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, to an
Malaysian Chinese family. From 1989 to 1994, he lived in Manchester in New
Hampshire. Chieng was a performer at a comedy festival that took place in
Melbourne, Australia in 2013 along with Trevor Noah. He was then asked to take
on the role as a correspondent for Noah's Daily Show two years after. He was
named one the top 10 comics to watch by Variety in July of 2016. In October
2016, Chieng appeared as a guest on The Daily Show to offer a response to an
Jesse Watts Fox News segment that many thought was racist. Chieng was known for
his expletive-laden remarks about the segment of Fox News, a conservative
network. Chieng also visited New York City's Chinatown in which Watters had
mocked residents and conducted interviews more respectfully in Mandarin and
Cantonese. The video went viral and was featured by the Washington Post, Slate,
and various other outlets. Chieng was a Singapore Sea Scout in his youth. Even
though he's lived in Australia for a decade, he does not have citizenship or
permanent residence status in Australia. Chieng joked in 2018 that the
cynophobe was his name, but later stated that he is 100 % unafraid of dogs.
